Digitek (Digoxin)Digitek or Digoxin is prescribed to treat heart failure and irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). The drug works by increasing the amount of calcium in the cells of the heart in the order to stimulate and strengthen heartbeats. Tablets were sold with double the thickness as typical tablets, and it is suspected that these pills contained double the activie ingredent. Actavis Totowa issued a nationwide recall notice on April 25, 2008 for Digitek after it was revealed that some tablets were improperly manufactured, leading to cases of severed and potentially fatal overdoses. Patients have suffered heart attacks, strokes or death as a result of digitalis toxicity. Other patients have reported Digitek side effects that include low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, vision problems - such as light “halos” around objects & green and yellow vision - nausea, vomiting, dixxiness, low blood pressure, decreased appetite, diarrhea, confusion, seizures, hallucinations, light "halos" around objects, green and yellow vision, fatigue, and Bradycardia (resting heart rate of under 60 beats per minute). The drugs are sold under different brand names, but they are essentially the same product with similar active ingredent. These drugs are: Digitek, Bertek, and UDL. The companies repsonsible for either manufactiuring these drugs or distributing them are: Actavis Totowa LLC for Digitek, Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc for Bertek, and UDL Laboratories Inc for UDL.
